About Blue Stone Coaching
Our Story
A few years ago, while traveling through Savannah, Georgia, I (Julia) felt the Lord’s prompting to begin a life coaching business to further my passion for helping women.
Given our strong friendship and collaborative history, along with Kaye's love for ministering to women, I reached out to create something extraordinary together.
After much prayer and several meetings, Blue Stone Coaching was born.
Why the Name “Blue Stone”
Exodus 24:9-10 says this, “Moses and Aaron, Nadab and Abihu, and the seventy elders of Israel went up and saw the God of Israel. Under His feet was something like a pavement of lapis lazuli, as bright blue as the sky.”
God Himself was standing on blue stones or blue bricks. To a people whose heritage was slavery in Egypt - they saw God standing on what once enslaved them. We believe that what once held you in bondage and slavery can also be under your feet!
In short, the Blue Stone symbolizes truth and wisdom, strength, transformation, and freedom, and we couldn’t think of a more fitting name!
Meet the Women Behind Blue Stone Coaching
Julia Mateer: MA, LMHC, CPC
I grew up in the heart of the Midwest in Indianapolis, Indiana, graduating from Berea College with a degree in Child Development, where I went on to receive my Master's in Professional Counseling and became a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in the state of Florida.
In between my freshman and sophomore years of college, I accepted Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior on July 17, 1981. Since then, all my decisions have been filtered through the lens of His will for my life.
During my undergraduate, I also met the love of my life and now husband of 37 years, Mark Mateer, and we have three children, three grandchildren, and a continued love affair not only with one another but also with our heavenly Father.
Some of my favorite things are laughing really hard with friends, strong black tea, thrifting, and quiet moments with Mark. I have a full life as a mother, grandmother, professional, and writer, but one of my greatest joys is having authentic conversations with women about life.
My story began on a farm in Battle Creek, Michigan, where I was raised with a strong work ethic and a love for people. After high school, I moved to Florida and graduated from Barry University with a degree in Psychology.
Shortly after, I moved to Austin, Texas where I met the two most important men in my life, Jesus and my husband Chris! Together we moved to Lynchburg, Virginia, and attended Liberty University where I earned my Master’s Degree in Counseling.
Chris and I have been working in and serving the local church professionally since 1992. Like Mark and Julia, we believe wholeheartedly that the transformational love of Jesus is the hope of the world.
Chris and I have two college-age daughters birthed to us through the miracle of adoption. Madison is from China and Cami’s birthmother is Honduran - we are an international family!
In my free time, you can find me at home in the pages of a book, somewhere near a body of water, or walking and talking with friends. My greatest joy is to listen to someone’s story and hold their pain or celebrate their joys.
